First and foremost, the Chase Archive is a crowd-sourced citizen science project. This means that the event data, media, and other comments on this site are provided by members of the community. While the Chase Archive team does as much as possible to “quality control” this information, it should be understood that inaccurate, incomplete, or missing information is possible. Furthermore, the data provided on this site are model reanalyses – not observations – and therefore should not be considered “truly representative” of the actual state of the atmosphere at the time of these events. Data used in this archive include multiple versions of the Rapid Refresh model (RAP) and Rapid Update Cycle model (RUC) as well as the ECMWF Reanalysis v5 model (ERA5). Each of these data are subject to various biases, inconsistencies and artifacts that may nudge the model output “further from reality”. We encourage community involvement in this project!
